    An estimated 250 people saw 18-year-old Jamie Elizabeth Teel crowned 1997 queen of the Kosciusko County Fair Scholarship Pageant.

Teel is the daughter of Jim and Barbara Teel of Warsaw.

June 26 1982

    Perry Morton, Warsaw, swept both days of National Bench Rest Shooters Association registered competition recently at Beeson's Rifle Range in Etna Green.

Morton won the 100 yard and grand aggregate on the first day and then captured the 200 yard and grand aggregate on the next day. A total of 26 shooters from Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and Ontario competed in the first registered match of the season.

June 26 1957

    Kosciusko County 4-H demonstrators walked away with five first places out of a possible eight in the district agriculture demonstration held at Manmouth High School north of Decatur.

Orvin Thompson of Burket won first with a correct milking demonstration; Bob Haupert and Ronald Swick, also of Burket, won with a demonstration on the importance of good wiring; Ronald Roberts of Syracuse was first in a demonstration titled "What do you want in your egg?"; "Steps for care of the garden" won first for Ronald Hibschman; and "how to fix broken windows" won first in the general division for Jerry Firestone. Both boys are from Syracuse.

June 26 1932

    A freak potato was discovered by M.W. Lucas, of Lakeside Park, as he was taking potatoes from his cellar to plant.

Four or five potatoes were found, which were anxious to propagate and could not wait until planted in the garden. The tuber burst open and approximately 30 young potatoes were found ready to start growing. [[In-content Ad]]
