Rodney Hollar loads corn early Friday morning in preparation for a day of planting along CR 150N, east of CR 400W. He said the dry weather has given him a chance to get into the fields earlier than usual.
The North Webster Lions Club is gearing up for the 59th Mermaid Festival June 18 through 26. Most events will be held on the festival grounds at the west end of Washington Street. Committee members are Wayne Beery, Tommy Thystrup, Steve Ward, Tony Holle, Mark Tevis, Tom Williams and Bob Richards. Lioness Club members are Janice Williams, president; Susanne Robinson, vice president and Queen of the Lakes pageant chairwoman; Connie Williamson, cutie parade chairwoman; Susan Corn, secretary; Vivian Kessler; Sylvia Richards.

Alisha Oliver, daughter of Ron and Jeannene Oliver, Pierceton, has been selected as a state finalist in the 1989 Miss Indiana Pre-Teen Pageant to be conducted June 23 and 24 in the Adams Mark Indianapolis Hotel. The winner will compete for the national title in November at Disneyworld. Alisha is a seventh-grader at Pierceton Middle School.
Lost for more than 20 years, the wallet recently found at the site of the old freshman school in Warsaw has been returned to its owner. Dave Richards, 48, who now lives in South Whitley, said he received a half-dozen calls from people who had read about the wallet in last week’s Potpourri column in the Times-Union. It was stolen while he was refereeing a basketball game at the school. Workers found it in the rubble while demolishing the school.

Dennis Sharp, vice president of the Milford Chamber of Commerce, in the absence of Donald Beer conducted the March meeting to determine what steps can be taken to legally change the name of the community from Milford Junction to Milford.
Marsha Shock as “Annie” and Richard Roose as “Frank” will be featured as the junior class of North Webster High School present “Annie Get Your Gun” Friday.
Commissioner Fred Gilliam conducted Girl Scout Troop 20 on a tour of the courtroom. Prosecuting Attorney Allan Rasor and Court Balliff Curtis Barker answered questions. Mrs. Adrian Good is troop leader with Mrs. Wallace Miller accompanying.

Wrecking one of the old landmarks of Warsaw, the Moon residence property on the southwest corner of South Buffalo and Winona Avenue, was begun Saturday morning by Arch Brumfield’s construction company. Huge 2x10 native poplar timbers, hand-axe hewn, were uncovered. The beautiful site is owned by Dr. S.C. Murphy.[[In-content Ad]]
