Kosciusko County 4-H is celebrating the 100th anniversary of the Indiana 4-H program in 2004. A 4-H cookbook is being planned for release in June. All recipes are needed by March 26. Special events will take place throughout the year.
Chad Rhoades became the third Scout from Troop 465 in North Manchester to receive the Eagle Award. The Troop held his Eagle Court of Honor at Scout Hall March 6. For his project he built two picnic tables for the Timbercrest Retirement Community nature area. He designed the tables, secured materials, participated in the construction and placed them onsite. Chad started in scouting as a second-grader. He has served in various leadership positions in Troop 465.

More than 3,000 eggs (many with redeemable coupons from area businesses) will be hidden around the Courthouse lawn. The Easter Bunny and characters from Celebrations will be greeting youngsters. Joining the egg hunt this year are Zachary Coffman, 18 months; Colin Shafer, five; Elyse Hardin and Brittany Coffman, both four.
The American Legion, celebrating 30 years in existence, presented awards Sunday for years of service in law enforcement and firefighting: Estill Calhoun, Winona Lake Volunteer Fire Department; Roger Fellows, jail commander at Kosciusko County Jail. Bill Johnson, commander, and Roy Carlisle, law and order chairman for the Legion, present the awards.
Jim Craft is a handyman working for the Kosciusko County Council on Aging. This is a new program to provide for the needs of seniors in this area.

Edgar Speer, Syracuse Elementary principal, stated that 370 pupils had entries in the school's Science Fair. Grand Champion was Carolynn Baumgartner, fourth-grade, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Baumgartner. Joel Burkholder, fifth-grade, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Burkholder, was named reserve champion.
The county's 1,200 third-graders were treated to the Shrine Circus in Fort Wayne Feb. 7. Robert W. Gast, chairman, and Lanny Mauzy presented cash awards to the top three students for their essays on the trip. Craig Tucker, Milford School, won $10.00 for being first; Debora Lynn Lewis, Leesburg School, second; John Logue, Lincoln, third. Comments included: "When I said my prayer that night, I asked God to bless all the Shriners for taking me and my friends to the circus."

More than 45 pupils of the junior and senior classes of the Clay Township High School left Claypool on the Nickle Plate Railroad at noon Friday for an excursion to Niagara Falls. The party will return home Sunday noon. The excursion was voted to take the place of the traditional Commencement banquet. Principal F. C. Sanders, Mary Keever, Walter Stout, and Mr. and Mrs. Leslie accompanied the students.
Alton Bouse of the Nelson Trucking Company, Burket, has resigned to take over management of the Standard Oil Station in Huntington. Homer Rodeheaver appears with Lowell Thomas Wednesday evening in a benefit performance broadcast from Constitution Hall in Washington, D. C. Local historian George Nye says the oldest building in Warsaw is the residence at 114 West Fort Wayne Street occupied by Bert Sellers. An ancestor of Thurl Pottenger's was born there in 1856.
