Lakeland Christian Academy senior soccer player Dan Clemens, son of Don and Jane Clemens, signed his letter of intent to continue his career at Grace College in the fall of 2004. At LCA he played goalkeeper for the Cougars, was a team captain and a two-time All-American. His team won the NACA National Championship two years in a row. He also played two years of basketball. Grace soccer coach is Roy Danielian; Lakeland Christian Academy coach is Tim Yocum.

     Wawasee senior Lindsay Olson advanced from the Valparaiso Regional and will compete in the gymnastics finals in Indianapolis. She won the regional championship on balance beam with her score of 9.5. Olson also placed third on bars with 9.25 and finished third in the all-around competition with a 37.025.

With spring just around the corner, local residents have flocked to their phones to report robins around their homes. On Monday Tom Myers, 604 E. Arthur St., reported seeing three. On Wednesday Lois Jump who lives west of Warsaw reported seeing a flock of 39!! And Thursday Audrey Gearhart of Retired Tigers called to say she had spotted a robin. Dorothy Plummer gets the nod at spotting the first blooming crocuses.

     Plans were finalized Feb. 27 for the annexation of Spanish World Gospel Mission to the town of Winona Lake.

     Whitko seniors Chad Christman, Chris LeFevor and Matt Koontz were recognized at the winter sports banquet for setting school records: Christman, boys basketball; LeFevor, girls basketball; Koontz, wrestling.

Victor Hara, Paula Tinkle, Becky Lancaster and Jane Detwiler, Lincoln Elementary, constructed a volcano for the Warsaw Community School Science Fair March 13-14.

     Three persons who have become members of the Indiana University Symphonic Wind Ensemble are Donna Person, Route 4, Warsaw, clarinet; Carol O'Reilley, 904 East Center, flute; and Richard Combs, Syracuse, percussion. The ensemble made its 1964 debut March 1st in the first of a series of band concerts on the Bloomington campus.

     Joel Light is referee while Bill Bullers and Stanley Konkle take part in a boxing match at Baker Boys' Club. Boys use protective headgear and padded gloves while receiving boxing instructions from City Officer Ardel Hanna.

75 years ago

Charlotte Marie Butler, Times reporter, takes notes as she surveys the fire damage with Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Rovenstine. The grocery was ruined. The Rovenstine house was considerably damaged by heat, smoke and water. Only the heroic efforts of the firemen saved it from total destruction. All furniture was removed by volunteers.

     Oscar Hugo of the Warsaw Cut Glass Company obligingly took time off his lunch hour to grind a special glass for your Times photographer's camera. Frances Smith received a beautiful blue candlewick bedspread from W. R. Thomas store employees on the eve of her last day's work. A fake business meeting was called and the gift was presented as a surprise. She resigned her position to become the bride of Arthur Lloyd on Sunday, January 29.
