NIPSCO workers survey the site where a major gas pipeline broke Friday afternoon on the west side of Boggs Industrial Park. Some of the local businesses and homes were evacuated until the problem was resolved. Construction crews tore a small tear in the main gas line at the corner of Armstrong and Hepler roads.
25 Years
Cub Scout Pack 3767 of Lincoln Elementary School heard Warsaw Police Officer Chuck Hodges at its March pack meeting. Hodges is on the department rescue and retrieval scuba team. He spoke to the scouts about water and scuba safety and his work with rescue and retrieval. Scouts received pins for their years in the program.
50 Years
Winners in the ping pong tournament at the Lakeland Youth Center in Syracuse are Dane Galloway, and Rex Heil and Roger Galloway. Also winning was Bob Streby. The contest went 94 rounds and lasted almost two hours before runner up Sue Ann Smith, Syracuse eighth grader, stumbled on the word "occurring." spelling it with only one r. Linda, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Blitz and in the eighth grade at Pierceton, spelled the word correctly. She then wrapped up the crown by spelling "parasite."
75 Years
W.E. Bowen and daughter Frances are back at their Tippecanoe Lake home after wintering in Hollywood, Fla. Joe McCartney and the Mrs. of Paintesville are back home after visiting the Walter and Dallas Crookes. Keith Horn, Atwood, son of Mr. and Mrs. Milo Horn, former Warsaw restaurant operators, are going to Boys State held Hoosier' Dome's capital June 2 to 5.
