A photo taken by the Associated Press ended up featuring a Milford man. In the photo, U.S. Army physician’s assistant Lt. John Frasure, 32, of Milford, looks through a box of cigars at Odai Hussein’s palace in Baghdad in one picture and is sitting on a gilded bed in the palace in another. Odai is Saddam Hussein’s eldest son and his palace was heavily bombed by coalition forces. Frasure is the nephew of Sybil Bradley, who saw the photo of Frasure on the bed at USAToday.com

Wal-Mart Stores Inc., one of the most successful retail outlets in the nation, has announced plans to build a Wal-Mart Discount City store east of Lake Village Shopping Center in Warsaw. Construction of the 81,900-square-foot store is expected to begin this summer, and an opening is tentatively scheduled for spring 1989. The new store will anchor a shopping center. Between 20 to 25 retail stores are planned, and are expected to create about 200 jobs.

L.N. “Pete” Thorn, Warsaw Baker Boys’ Club director, recently received a medal as honorary director, or referee, of the Wabash Relays, held at Crawfordsville. It’s customary for the college to bring back former great athletes for the occasion. “Pete” earned 16 letters at the school.

At the regular meeting of the directors of the Warsaw Chamber of Commerce recently, final steps were taken for the location in Warsaw of a subsidiary of the Junior Toy Corporation, of Hammond, Ind., a well-established industry manufacturing toys of various kinds. The new factory, which is expected to employ 150 or more persons within a year, will be located in the building, formerly known as the Hugro building on North Detroit Street.
