Kosciusko County Sheriff's Deputy Jon Tyler and Warsaw Police Officer Doug Light have teamed up to design the Emergency Vehicle Operation Course to help officers from throughout the county brush up on their driving skills. They drew the course on paper, then once they were satisfied with the plan, set it up at the Warsaw Municipal Airport and tested it themselves. Tyler and Light incorporated 12 obstacles in the course to help officers focus ahead.
Kosciusko County Community Foundation awarded Lilly Endowment Scholarships to Daniel Stichter, Triton High School, son of Steve and Cindy Stichter, Etna Green, and to Cameron Abbott, Warsaw Community High School, son of Joe and Elaine Abbott, Warsaw. Both are in the National Honor Society.

Tom Rentschler is reroofing foreman with the 84-year-old Sherriff-Goslin Roofing Co., Rochester. Since 1983, he has designed and directed the creation of hundreds of new roofs throughout Indiana, Michigan and Ohio with 20-30 roofs being in Kosciusko County.
Stan Holderman joined the Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department in 1968, first as a deputy sheriff, then as detective; Roy Carlile started in 1975 as a dispatcher, then becoming jailer. Both have retired from KCSD.
Norman Gunsolley, administrator of Warsaw Christian School, announced that Lori Goshert, fifth, grade, and Adam Clemens, sixth, will represent the school at the Regional Spelling Meet in Indianapolis April 6.

Walter Calnon, Syracuse clerk-treasurer, announced that plans are being made to replace the Front Street bridge in the community. He said the bridge, built in the 1900s, is too narrow and in need of repair. If built, the bridge would be widened and raised, which would make it possible for larger boats to use Turkey Creek.
Auto License Branch Manager Mary Ganshorn announced that an office would be opened March 15 in The Times-Union office in the Pickwick block in Syracuse. Patricia Bitner will assist at the branch.
Debbie Bockman and Jill Geiger will represent North Webster School in the Kosciusko County Spelling Bee. Debbie nosed out Carla Alvey for the junior high division. Jill outspelled Kerry Barrett to represent the grade school.

Kosciusko County’s only 1940 leap-year-day baby arrived at 10:15 p.m. Feb. 29 at the McDonald Hospital. The youngster is a bouncing 7.8 pound baby boy, the son of Mr. and Mrs. Woodrow Palmer, Warsaw. Dr. T.S. Schuldt, Pierceton, ushered the new arrival into the world. Mother and son, named Larry Woodrow, are doing nicely. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Fred Palmer and Mr. and Mrs. Rufus Morrison, all of Route 3, Warsaw.
One of the largest calves reported was born to a four-year-old Holstein cow on the Carl Beyer and Morris Carlile farm, northeast edge of Warsaw. An hour after birth, the calf tipped the scales at 125 pounds, more than the total of three other week-old calves in the same pen. Times & Union photog Mush Warner snapped a photo.[[In-content Ad]]
