    Two local youngsters will be among the competitors at the New Star Discovery "Most Beautiful Baby" Contest May 3 and 4 in Indianapolis.

Logan Dale Phillips, 10-month-old son of Garry and Bonnie Phillips of Warsaw, won first place in the 0-7 months age division in the Elkhart Regional to advance to the state finals. Ross William Dale Trout, 5, son of Art and Kathy Trout, Winona Lake, was the winner of the 3- to 6-year-old boys division in the September regional contest at Holiday Inn, Warsaw.

    Winners for selling the most cheese and sausage for the Milford Junior High School fundraiser were Jared Hampton, first place with a total of $507; Rhonda Amsden, second with $377.50; and Jeff Duncan, third with $332.

    Denise McCuen, daughter of the Lowell McCuens, Nappanee, is only 5 and she has already won a measure of acclaim. Denise is listed in the eighth annual edition of "Who's Who in Baton Twirling." Only 975 persons in the entire country are named in this directory.

    A majority of the county officers, both Republicans and Democrats, were asked if they would meet President Hoover in the turning back of their salaries to the taxpayers, the county, and serve as a dollar-a-year official for the sake of economy. Newspapers report that President Hoover has offered to turn back $74,999 of his $75,000 salary and to serve as a dollar a year man.

No officer was found who was willing to turn back any salary, and they contend that the salary was not large enough to permit any of them to turn it back to the county. [[In-content Ad]]
