Each year the Warsaw Breakfast Optimist Club sponsors Tri-Star basketball for area students ages 8-13, demonstrating the contestant’s abilities in dribbling, passing and shooting. Nikki Gross, daughter of Allen and Tracey Gross, Warsaw, placed first in the regional contest and went on to Greencastle to secure the first-place position in the Tri-Star State Final in the 8-year-old girls category. Drs. David Haines and Steve Hollar are Tri-Star chairmen.
Warsaw Community High School senior Ashley Kitchens, daughter of Greg and Becky Kitchens, signed a letter of intent to continue her soccer career at Indiana Wesleyan University under Coach John Bratcher. She is a four-year letter winner and led the Lady Tigers to back-to-back girls soccer semistate appearances.

National Lutheran School Week will end at Redeemer Lutheran School with a fashion show. The children will model play clothes from JC Penney and Easter fashions from Kline’s. Adults and teens will model fashions from Uhlman’s, Maynard’s Men’s Store and The Village Shop. Judy Cole will be the emcee. Among the students are Rick Hart, fourth grade; Craig Becknell, preschool; Michael Gaunt, preschool; and Nathan Conley, third grade.
Warsaw senior Brandon Creighton and the rest of the Tigers are looking for their first regional title since 1985 when they battle in the Elkhart Regional March 11.

Bruce Howe Jr., Winona Lake, was on hand last week at Rodeheaver Boys’ Ranch in Palatka, Fla., to represent the company during President Lyndon Johnson’s visit.
Kenneth L. Jernigan, North Webster, and William O’Dell, Warsaw, were named winners of the 35th annual Warsaw Sectional Basketball Tournament “guessing contest” sponsored by Central Shoe Company. Both correctly named Columbia City as the tournament winner and came within a point of the total of points scored in the nine games – 1,388. Each man will receive his choice of any pair of shoes in the store, owner Jerry Gerald stated.

A Warsaw quartet, Francis “Laddie” Ladd, Ralph McDaniels, Austin Helser and Floyd Schue, entertained Jan. 16 at a Fort Wayne hotel where a former Warsawan is singing nightly. Jo Washburn saw her friends and announced they would sing. The quartet was recalled for encores and offered a steady singing position by an influential person in the audience.
Dian Hay, daughter of Helen and Wes Hay, is celebrating her 5th birthday by dining out with her auntie, Dora Breading, and newly acquired Uncle Bob. Lucille and Bud Sjoquist’s little daughter, Patty, entertained at the Times with several new dance steps she learned from watching the cinema.[[In-content Ad]]
