Fire last night destroyed completely a 150x30-foot shed behind the Beaver Dam school building, causing heavy loss in machinery and tools of the manual department, but favorable weather conditions and prompt action by Mentone and Burket fire departments prevented spread of the blaze. The fire, which started in the east end of the building where the stove is located, was discovered at 8:15 p.m. Feb. 21 by a neighbor. Intense heat cracked windows in the building and damaged a utility pole. A school bus housed in the structure was removed without damage. Quantities of oil and paint caught fire and added to the intensity and speed. Hardly more than half an hour after discovery, the tin roof caved in and the walls were leveled.[[In-content Ad]]
