For two quarters, Wawasee’s boys basketball team did what few teams have been able to do the past four years – hold Plymouth sharpshooter Kyle Benge in check. Benge, the state’s second-leading scorer, was swarmed by Wawasee’s high-energy defense in the Class 3A Huntington semistate, and was held to just three points at half time, all coming from the free throw line. He scored 13 more in the second half to help the Pilgrims to a 62-51 win at Conseco Fieldhouse.
Warsaw school board heard that enrollment in all Warsaw schools is at 6,606 students, up 42 from the same time last year. Tamara Dalton was sworn in as the new board member representing District 4.

People in Rochester were frightened as a result of encounters with straying elephants during last night’s Cole Brothers and Robbins Circus fire. L.V. Lauderback was sitting in his home when he heard what sounded like an explosion nearby. Opening the back door to investigate, he gazed into the eyes of a huge bull elephant which had stepped onto the back porch and fallen through after dragging down the clothes line in the back yard. Wallace Weicz found an elephant in his front yard. Jesse Adkins and Zack Terrell, owners, were at supper with other employees when the fire was discovered. Five tractors, 20 parade wagons and other equipment were destroyed. Assistant Fire Chief Art Smith found no evidence of arson. New wiring was installed in the winter quarters that day.[[In-content Ad]]
