George Brennan III was named 2004 CASA Volunteer of the Year for his integrity, tenacity and powerful desire to make a difference for children in Kosciusko County. After being sworn in by Superior Court Judge Duane Huffer in March 2001, he has represented 14 children in nine cases.
D. Blaine Mikesell was recognized for his many contributions to Winona Lake during the annual community dinner at Lakeland Christian Academy March 17. Judy Reneker presented him the Bill Reneker Memorial Community Service Award in honor of her late husband.

J. Bruce Robinaugh announced the promotions of Lauran Sattler and Barb Lindquist to management assistants at Uhlman’s in Warsaw.
Subway on North Detroit Street recently held its grand opening ceremony with Roslynn Morgan, manager; John Marty, general manager; Bruce Chilton, assistant manager; Larry Rohr, field manager; and Dan and Roberta Gregory, owners.
NAPA Auto Parts, Warsaw, has announced that Bob Seiffert has been named 1989 Salesman of the Year by the distribution center in Fort Wayne, the second time in four years that he has received the award for dedication to the company and customers. Seiffert has been a NAPA salesman in Warsaw since 1973, also serving Syracuse and North Webster.
Audrey Beeson, Winona Lake, made mud pies in her outdoor kitchen over the weekend.

Mr. and Mrs. Harvey O. Welty Sr., of Bourbon, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with an open house from 2 to 5 p.m. Feb. 28 in the social rooms of the Methodist Church. They were married Feb. 25, 1915, by the Rev. Luther J. Smith, Goshen. They have six sons: Leslie, Mentone; Devon, Bremen; Kenneth, New Paris; Lowell, Etna Green; Ross and Harvey Jr., both of Bourbon; 23 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Terry, 15, and Lowell, 14, Coverstone, students at Syracuse High School and sons of Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Coverstone, as pages for State Rep. George Fisher Feb. 23.
Dog N’ Suds Drive-In, 814 E. Winona Ave., Warsaw, is now open with Mr. and Mrs. Russell Sponseller, daughter, Louise and son, Russell Jr.

A shoplifter was active at the Knight Drug Store Saturday, police have been advised. The loss included a Remington electric razor.
Non-competitive examinations were taken at the Warsaw post office by two Kosciusko County postmasters, Ruby G. Nusbaum, Winona Lake, and Eugene Felkner, Milford. Both have been recommended for reappointment. Roy Bartol, civil service examiner for Warsaw post office, conducted the examination.
Inspector Rumble, Cincinnati, conferred with Arthur W. McKee, general manager of the Winona Christian Assembly, relative to a lease for additional space to enlarge the Winona Lake post office. It is planned to add a large room back of the barber shop to the present work room of the post office.
