March 10 1983

    BURKET - Garland Kiefer isn't sure when he fought his first fire here or when he'll fight his last, but he's celebrating 1983 as his golden anniversary as a Burket Volunteer Fireman.

"Shorty," as he is known in Burket, recently received his life membership card in the Indiana Volunteer firemen's Association. And, although he has no plans to retire, Shorty, 67, decided now would be a good time to celebrate his service as a fireman.

March 10 1958

    At a recent singspiration held at the Mentone Methodist Church, Mentone High School students defeated Warsaw High School students in the first round of the Bible quiz by a score of 120 to 100.

Members of the winning team are Janice Davis, Becky Keirn, Linda Blackburn, Martha Hohman, Barbara Unzicker. Those on the Warsaw team were Larry DeArmy, Judy Cook, Roberta Lamey, Mary Lockwood and Evelyn Tschetter.

    ROCHESTER - Martin Evey Sunday morning completed a record of which there are few equals, that of having for 30 years never having missed attending Sunday school. Atty. Ivey has been the teacher of the Wesleyan Bible class of the Methodist church here for the past 17 years.
