Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department has promoted five officers: Chris McKeand, Donald K. Wiesehan, William “Rocky” Goshert, Matt Rapp and Craig Bale.
Tippecanoe Valley Middle School students will compete in the Indiana Regional Future City Competition at IUPU in Fort Wayne. The students create models of future cities, write abstracts and essays on engineering needs. June Yazel is advisor for the team: Tabby Ramsey, Courtney Schmucker, Kyle Lowe, Robert Bitting, Ian Ruisard, Derek Hughes, Cayla Schrader and Alex Weaver.

Mary Grubbs, senior manufacturing planner, received an award from Planning Manager Doug Evers for her 25 years of service with Zimmer. Merl Montel, Pierceton, has been with United Telephone for 25 years; Jerry Keyes, Warsaw, 20 years.
Mike Foreman has a marble creations industry in Leesburg. “I like to draw and carve things from wood. As I got older, I designed things from metal,” he said. Mike uses a magnifying glass while carving his ivory pieces (scrimshaw). He won best of show at the Kosciusko County Fair last year.

Mr. and Mrs. James Gebert of Pierceton brought their two-year-old son, Eddie, to watch the Pierceton Cubs play the North Webster Trojans in the tourney opener. Eddie’s aunt, Becky Gebert, is one of the Pierceton cheerleaders. The Cubs, paced by junior Garth Cone’s 29 points, won 83 to 59. Wayne Carlin added 15; Dick Wells,13; and Ray Slusher, 10. Aloha Moser, Karen Milam, and Serita Bell cheered for their Trojans.
Paul A. Brammer, Warsaw, enlisted in the U.S. Navy and is in recruit training at Great Lakes Naval Training Center. He is a former linotype operator for The Times-Union. Ira L. Pratt and Robert J. Yunker, both of Warsaw, and John R. Williams, Syracuse, enlisted in December.

Claypool High School’s cage quintet kept on the victory trail last night by turning back Etna Green by a 37-27 count. The result was never in doubt as Claypool, with its star center, Bernard Neff, led the Knights to a 17-3 edge in the initial period. Etna Green, fighting gamely all the way, was unable to stop the fast charging Claypool offense until the final period when the Purple assaulted the hoop for 16 points. Neff was high point man with 17 points; Harmon led Etna Green with seven.
Sam DePoy, manager of the Warsaw Milling Co. and former city councilman, was appointed by Mayor John G. Hansman director of the Kosciusko County Welfare Board to succeed Nellie Arnold who resigned. He will assume his duties on Jan. 9, 1939.
