Warsaw Community Public Library Director Ann Zydek announced a new program to begin Monday. The “1,000 Book Club Read With Me” is meant to encourage parents to read to their children.
Milford Town councilmen Gary T. Hurd, Robert C. Cockburn and Douglas Ruch are presenting retiring Milford Police Chief Deputy Lou Mediano with a plaque for his years of service at an open house March 13.

The Wawasee Soil Judging Team received the outstanding county judging team award for the 13th year in a row. Members are Brian Wuthrich, Dave Rosenberry, Steve Davis and Dave Schaffer with Randy Warren as their advisor.
Jim Bechtel, Tri-State representative, showed drawings of how “Kaleidoscope Kosciusko” could be worked into the area promotion, an effort by the Warsaw and Syracuse Chambers of Commerce, the Convention and Visitor’s Bureau and Kosciusko Development Incorporated.
The printing presses at Free Methodist Publishing House in Winona Lake will be silent for the first time since 1935. It was no longer economically feasible to operate the printing facilities so the presses have been sold.

Patricia Judy, Route 2, Pierceton, is among 231 new freshmen this year at Indiana University who ranked either first or second in their high school graduating classes.
A camp car of the Nickel Plate Railroad was derailed 2-1/2 miles west of South Whitley early morning Jan. 12. Trainmen report that a draw bar dropped. The wrecking crew was called from Fort Wayne and cleared the track in four hours.
Bill Wiley and Candy Thomas, Kosciusko County teenage co-chairmen for the March of Dimes, discuss plans for a peanut sale this Saturday with Mary Pat Van Osdol, the county’s poster girl. Students will be out on the streets of Warsaw giving away peanuts for donations. The group also planned a dance at the American Legion Home Jan. 25.

The Rev. George Sprague is the champion wood chopper on the park. He strikes with the precision of a surveyor and when he gets through a log, it is as smooth as if planed. He says he learned his trade when a boy helping his father clear his farm. Marion M. Latimer, Route 5, Warsaw, has been a subscriber of the Northern Indianian and Daily Times for nearly 60 years. Perry Easterday was honored by the local Elks Lodge with a new $50 emblem for past services rendered.
