Shanna Zolman was all smiles as Wawasee High School retired the senior’s No 24 jersey at a ceremony during the halftime of the boys basketball game between Tippecanoe Valley and Wawasee Friday night in Syracuse. Zolman, who was named to the Phoenix/WBCA High School All-American Game presented by Nike, is the leading girls’ scorer in Indiana and sits at No 2 on the all-time career scoring list behind Damon Bailey. Shanna’s parents are Kem and Lynnette Zolman. Mary Hurley is the Wawasee athletic director.

Area banker V. Edgar Stanley is one of 16 people to be recognized nationally for his heroics last May when he saved a 1-year-old baby in a Rochester house fire. Stanley, board chairman at Counting House Bank, Warsaw, was notified recently that he is being recognized with a Carnegie Medal for heroism. Along with a certificate and medal, he will receive $2,000. He and his wife were on their way to work when they saw smoke coming from the home of Daniel and Michelle Jensen. He entered the house twice and, because of heavy smoke, crawled into a downstairs family room area and found the toddler by listening for his cries.

Warsaw High School students witnessed a surprise ceremony at a hastily-called general assembly program this morning when Football Coach Bill Goshert received a Distinguished Service award from the Warsaw Junior Chamber of Commerce, which named him “Outstanding Young Man of the Year” in Kosciusko County. He was selected on the basis of his contributions to the community.

75 Years Ago

The senior class of Atwood High School will present on Thursday and Friday, a three-act comedy, “Everybody’s Getting Married,” in the gymnasium. The play is under the direction of H.C. Wilson. Members of the cast are: Martin Egolf, William Anglin, Ducky Yeiter, Maxine Pinkerton, Homer Campbell, Kathryn Nicodemus, Mildred Griesinger, Helen Berkey, Evelyn Harman, Velma Williamson, Gladys Hildenbrand, Maurice McDaniel, Joe Achor and Forrest Cline.
