Joann Walgamuth, executive dean of Ivy Tech State College’s Warsaw campus, announced her retirement at the end of February. She joined the college in 1997 as a full-time business instructor and has served as executive dean since July 1, 2000. She plans to relocate to Galveston, Texas, and teach part time at the college.

Burleigh Burgh and Craig Smith, proprietors of Breading’s Cigar Store, received a certificate of appreciation from Sheriff Ron Robinson for “contributions to the Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department and the citizens of Kosciusko County.” The money from the annual Breading’s Christmas party, $2,700, was donated to the Crime Stoppers organization.
David C. Manning, Warsaw, retired from Northern Indiana Public Service Company after 38 years. He joined NIPSCO in 1951 as a meter reader and advanced to various positions. George Scott, new director of the service department at United Telephone of Indiana, replaced Jim Bowers. Scott, Warsaw, started his career with United as a junior accountant on Sept. 7, 1965. He grew up in Claypool, graduating in 1963 from Claypool High School.

William A. Haldewang has been appointed assistant to George H. Lenke Jr., president of Da-Lite Screen Company of Warsaw. He is a former industrial sales manager from Chicago Heights, Ill., and has wide experience in the production of movie screen materials. The family includes four children: Anne, college in Missouri; Sally, junior; William, eighth-grader; Joan, sixth-grader. After the school year, they will move to Warsaw.
Thomas Whetstone, Route 1, Claypool, will celebrate his 100th birthday Jan. 14. Born in 1864 in Wapakoneta, Ohio, he came to Franklin Township at the age of 5. His family settled in a log cabin one mile east of Sevastapol and later moved north of Mentone. Before retirement he was engaged in general farming and had operated a threshing machine for 30 years. On Feb. 12, 1887, he married Mary Ann Jefferies, who is deceased. A son, Casel, grandson, Carl, and great-grandson, Timothy, live in Mentone.

Farmers throughout Kosciusko County were observed plowing in their fields on Jan. 10 getting ready for corn and oats planting later in the spring, according to F.A. Bussing. Spring plowing has happened not infrequently before.

Hubert and Juanita Johnston, Winona Lake, selected the name Judith Linn for their daughter born Sunday night, Jan. 8, at Murphy Medical Center. Linn is Judith’s mother’s maiden name.[[In-content Ad]]
