A fiber optic project for Warsaw Community Schools is underway, with plans to complete the project in three phases. The project, installing fiber optic lines to ultimately connect all Warsaw schools, is expected to cost approximately $400,000 once all phases are completed, said Dennis VanDuyne, WCS technology director. Washington Elementary, Warsaw Community High School, Edgewood Middle School and the administration building already are connected, thanks to a grant the technology department received approximately four years ago.

The 1-cent postage stamp, a nearly forgotten relic, was back in large-scale use today. That’s because it takes 5 cents worth of postage now to send a letter first class and 8 cents worth for air mail.
Warsaw Postmaster Frank O. Rarick said today that sales of 1-cent stamps here skyrocketed from an average of 2,000 Monday. At Winona Lake, Postmaster Phil Laurien reported his sales also jumped, making a special order of additional stamps necessary.

Two Winona Lake youths, Rowan Howe and Grover Sims Jr., took their annual polar bear plunge into the icy waters of Winona Lake a few days ago after chopping away 11 inches of ice. The former plays football with Manchester College as center on the varsity. Sims is a student in Warsaw Senior High School. Last year the Winona Polar Bears numbered five when there was only a film of ice on the lake. This year three of the bears hibernated when they saw the 11 inches of ice on the lake.
