    The first working day of 1998 marked the beginning of major steps toward improved security in Kosciusko County Justice Building.

From now on, all visitors to the Justice Building will be greeted by law enforcement and pass through a metal detector. As part of the process, visitors will be asked to empty pockets of any metal objects. Anyone wearing objects that include metal such as belt buckles and steel-toed boots will be scanned with a hand-held metal detecting wand.

    Craig S. Schang, son of Clifton E. and Mary E. Schang, Leesburg, has been promoted in the U.S. Air Force to the rank of senior airman.

Schang is an aircraft fuel systems mechanic at Eglin Air Force Base, Fla., with the 3211th Field Maintenance Squadron.

    Mrs. William Knapp and Mrs. Frank Starkweather were initiated into Gamma Chi chapter of Psi Iota Xi society at the home of the president, Mrs. William Sadler, East Jefferson Street.

January 3 1932

    The annual New Year's Eve party given by the bridge club group, who style themselves "The Dumbbells," was held this year at the Hotel Hays with Dr. and Mrs. G.W. Anglin and Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Philpott as hosts and hostesses. Prize winners were Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Johnson, Mrs. Homer Smith and Fred Ward.
