Warsaw Community High School graduate Jaclyn Leininger, 2004 Indiana Miss Basketball, now a sophomore at Miami University, was named MVP of the St. Louis Tournament. She scored 24 points and pulled down 10 rebounds in a 62-55 win over St. Louis, helping the Redhawks to a 2-1 season.

    Taking over for three-year starter Kory Lantz, junior Joe Leach has been named the 2005 Times-Union Offensive Player of the Year. He completed 131 of 193 passes for 1,512 yards, with 17 touchdowns and just four interceptions. He also racked up 700 yards on 125 carries, with a season-high 226 yards on 15 carries against Goshen. Leach led the Warriors to an 8-3 record.

25 Years

Frank Manwaring, secretary-treasurer of Midwest Poultry Services in Mentone, was honored with the Golden Egg Award for his distinguished service to the Indiana Poultry Industry. He was raised in Mentone, where the family business, Manwaring Leghorn Farms, began as a hatchery in a field. The company is now the 10th largest in the U.S.

    Syracuse Middle School, slated for demolition next summer, is one of more than 1,200 structures included in a 1991 book highlighting historical sites in Kosciusko County. The 63-year-old building's historical significance stems from its architecture and ramps. Renovating the building to meet state codes was too expensive, school officials said.

    Jeremiah Anglin, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Anglin, Warsaw, was named a district winner in an Indiana Farm Bureau essay contest Dec. 2.

 
50 Years

Curtis Garber, editor of The Times-Union, and his son, Jon, attended the Purdue vs. Wisconsin Dad's Day football game Saturday, Nov. 6, at West Lafayette.

    Principal Wendell Bryant says the proposed additions and renovations to the North Webster School are scheduled for completion in the fall of 1966.

    Due to the recent territorial expansion of Manwaring Leghorn Farms, Mentone, in acquiring KimberChiks, Earl Stouder, Route 5, Warsaw, was appointed Field Sales and Service Manager. Manwaring's annually produce over 3,000,000 KimberChiks in one of the Midwest's most modern hatcheries. Manwaring's have been in the business of producing quality leghorns for over 54 years.

75 Years

The 100th anniversary of the Warsaw Presbyterian Church is being observed this week and Tuesday evening, Nov. 12, an historical pageant, "Our Heritage," written by Mrs. Clara Moran, Mrs. C.C. DuBois and Miss Oria Simons, was presented at the church, directed by Mrs. Harold A. Ford. Information was secured from old session books, historical sketches and the Warsaw Daily Times of 1888. L.A. Peterson portrayed "Father Time," and William Wagner was trumpeter. Dr. A.W. Raabe spoke Sunday morning to open the centennial celebration, with the choir under the direction of Mrs. F.C. Olds. A banquet in the church basement will be held Thursday evening. Next Sunday, Dr. E.H. Montgomery, pastor from 1902 to 1909, will be the guest speaker, followed by an open house at the manse on South High Street.
