Awards for the Festival of Trees at Town Center Mall went to: Designer’s Choice Awards, first place – ”Let It Snow” by Heather Batalis; second place – ”Over the River and Through the Woods” by Laurie Kerr; third place – “All Nature Sings” by Cheryl O’Halloran, who along with her husband Richard donated several centerpieces and mantelpieces to be sold.
Wawasee High School FFA teams took top honors at the State Soil Judging Contest in Vincennes Oct. 23. First place went to Kelly Darr, Sarah Banghart, Hollie Sharp and Becky Clayton; second place, Simon Baumgartner, Chad Yotter, Jeff Anglemyer and Eric Kaiser.

Heather Ann Kenney, 18, daughter of John and Kittie Kenney, Jefferson St., Warsaw, will represent Kosciusko County in the Miss Indiana-U.S.A. Pageant Dec. 9 and 10 in Great Lakes Center, Valparaiso. Her sponsors include John Wong’s Restaurant, Allen’s Designs, Harvey’s Mart, Jem Motor Co., Lakeside Chevrolet, Lee Ann Stewart Dance School, Mr. and Mrs. Saylor, Naomi Burgher and Lana Wong.
Business Monthly magazine has named Biomet as one of 1989’s top 10 best managed companies in the United States, according to Greg Sasso, spokesman. The magazine gave a brief profile of Biomet and its president, Dane Miller.
Warner Cable manager Tom Flora announced that pay-per-view service is now available. The first opportunity for subscribers is the Leonard-Duran boxing match Dec. 7. Cost is $24.95 extra.

Donna Stevens, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Erwin Stevens, has been named “Good Citizen of the Leesburg High School” by the Daughters of the American Revolution and will compete for the county DAR award.
Marjorie F. Wagner, Seal Beach, Calif., formerly of Warsaw, wrote a letter to The Times-Union concerning a reprint of an item she had contributed to the Los Angeles Times.
Northern Lakes Conference Sportswriter’s Awards went to Warsaw’s Terry Hopkins, Lineman of the Year, and Rochester quarterback Steve Coplen, Back of the Year. Hopkins was an outstanding offensive tackle and finished the season with 48 points. Coplen completed 74 of 120 passes for 62 percent aerial accuracy, averaging 12.7 yards per throw.

Warsaw’s popular mail carrier, George “Pinky” McClellan, while cleaning out his cottage on Dream Lake, found a youngster’s softball bat. He gave it to The Daily Times to give to some deserving newsboy. Little Dickie Dobbins was the lucky youngster.
A 10-pound pike was landed by Reuben Williams Wednesday night on Center Lake. His companion, Bill Mollenhour, assisted in getting the pike into the boat. These Times “novice” fishermen are out far ahead of the “regular” anglers of the Times force this season in a contest. This pike does not count – the contest stipulates only bass. Results were: Williams, 25; Mollenhour, 9; Warner, 7; McGlynn, 6. Former printer, now retired, Bill Connell, is one of the best anglers in this part of the state.
