    The area Elks Hoop Shoot competition took place recently. The winners were: Age 8-9, boys, Todd Neeley, Akron Elementary, girls, Amanda Hughes, Mentone Elementary; Age 10-11, boys, Preston Studebaker, Akron Elementary, girls, Kasa Kramer, Mentone Elementary; Age 12-13, boys, Trey Eaton, Valley Middle School, girls, Kelly Sanders, Valley Middle School.

    Tammy Henry, of Warsaw, was named winner of The Times-Union Christmas coloring contest. Her entry was picked as the best from among more than 50 contestants, narrowly edging Tony Oler of Warsaw for the top prize. Tammy says she plans to use the $25 first prize to buy pizza for her family, with the possible exception of her brother, Ryan. Her parents are Terry and Peg.


50 Years Ago

December 31 1957

    Lavon Harman, 6-foot, 6-inch, 220-pound sophomore from Warsaw, is on the Ball State College varsity basketball team as a center this year. Harman is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Russell Harman, of near Warsaw. His father is Center Ward school principal. Big Lavon was a four-year letterman in basketball for Warsaw High School.

    Mrs. T.M. Raker, of Silver Lake, for more than 50 years a reader of The Times and Indianian, visited the county seat today and also took occasion to visit The Times office.
