Kosciusko County Retired Teachers Association met Dec. 13 at Warsaw First Brethren Church. Luncheon was provided by the Katering Kitchen; the Vocal Jazz Ensemble from Wawasee High School, under the direction of Connie Meadows, presented the program. Josephine Likens, 97, recited the poem "Home" by Edgar Guest. Phil Eherenman led in the singing of Christmas carols, accompanied by Gene Gossman on accordion and Josephine Likens on piano.
Concepts in Stone and Tile, owned by Brian and Kim McHose, has been in the Warsaw area since 1990, assisting clients in choosing the right stone for their project, from design concept to completion. A ribbon-cutting ceremony was held for the new showroom at 118 N. Buffalo St.
25 YearsKosciusko County Councilman Lewis Bertsch presented George Klinger a plaque for his years of service on the council. He is being replaced by Ray Compton. Klinger served eight years as Fourth District Councilman.
Robert R. Douglas and his wife, Hildegard, were recent dinner guests of R.R. Donnelley & Sons Company. Retired Postmaster Douglas had 42 years with the postal service. During his 13 years in Warsaw, he hosted two postmaster generals through the Donnelley operation, and saw Donnelley customers pay more than $1 billion to the Warsaw Post Office. In 1978, Donnelley customers voted him central region postmaster of the year.50 Years
The Leesburg High School Blue Blazers were overjoyed when they captured their first cage tourney title of any kind for more than 41 years by edging Claypool 75-68 for the championship in the finals of the four-way tournament held at Larwill last night, Dec. 15. Norm Dukes and Jack Stookey hold the coveted "Silver Horseshoe," which the Claypool Knights held since the county tourney last year.
Superintendent Glen Whitehead, after serving 47 years in educating the county's youngsters, is retiring Dec. 31 since Clay and Lake Township schools are consolidating Jan. 1 with the Warsaw Community School System. In July 1945, he took over as county school superintendent, with 29 school units plus Warsaw schools. For this school year, there were eight high schools and six consolidated elementaries.75 Years
Automobile license plates for 1941 went on sale Thursday morning, Dec. 5, at the Warsaw license branch. George 2nd Myers, manager, said 200 sets were sold in the morning. Deadline for securing the new plates, white numerals against a royal blue background, is Dec. 31. Ben Phillipson, of Warsaw, secured the first plates for a passenger car; the first truck plates went to Lewis B. Rassi, of Milford. Auto plates are from 574-001 to 581-800; truck plates from 40-651 to 42-150.
The 5th Quartermaster's battalion of the U.S. Army, consisting of seven officers, 187 enlisted men and 58 motor vehicles, will pass through Warsaw on State Road 15 about 11:30 o'clock Friday morning, Dec. 6, en route from Fort Benjamin Harrison at Indianapolis to Fort Custer at Michigan.
