The devastating fire of Sept. 3, which destroyed the Ace Hardware store on East Center Street, has resulted in a new store, remodeled and ready for Christmas. There’s a new ceiling, light fixtures, floors, display fixtures, new stock, pleasing wall colors – one of the most attractive stores in downtown Warsaw. The oldest continuing hardware establishment in Warsaw, the store was originally established by John Grabner more than 90 years ago. He had his son, John, sleep at the store when he was 14 because he was fearful of it being robbed. Before it became Ace Hardware 28 years ago, it was known as the Pottenger Hardware Store, operated by Royal and Thurlow Pottenger.
