All 670 Wawasee Middle School students assembled on the front lawn Oct. 30 to witness its first flag-raising ceremony. Ground was broken for construction in May 1989.
50 Years
A gold pin, certificate and jacket patch were presented to five outstanding newspaper boys this morning, Oct. 16, by Leon Vance, Syracuse, route manager, and Jack Knisley, circulation manager of The Times-Union. A tour of the newspaper offices and facilities followed the presentation: Vic Benner, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gale Benner, Syracuse; Rick Moriarty, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Moriarty, Tippecanoe; Chuck Mudd, son of Mr. and Mrs. Edward Mudd, Warsaw; David Evans, son of Mr. and Mrs. Norman Evans, Warsaw; Bruce Miller, son of Mr. and Mrs. Paul Miller, Warsaw.
Angela Blanchard, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jack Blanchard, Route 2, Warsaw, was crowned Warsaw High School's Homecoming Queen for 1965 by last year's queen, Candy Thomas. She received the Homecoming football, a bouquet of red roses from co-captains, Dave Beigh and Greg Colt, and a kiss on the cheek by Beigh.
75 Years
Wes Brown, west of Warsaw, tells the Times and Union that 34 years ago Friday, Oct. 11, Warsaw had a snow in these parts. The Bourbon fair was in full swing, and to keep warm, fair goers divided into a circle and played fox and geese.
Donald Lessig Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Lessig, North Lake Street, Warsaw, was pledged to the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, where he is a freshman.
Milford's Methodist Church held a Homecoming service, Sunday, Oct. 13. Rev. Turner, pastor from 1898 to 1901, gave the main address. The new church was built during his ministry. A potluck dinner was served in the basement at noon.
