Eldon Senff, Mentone, won prizes in Ace Hardware of Warsaw’s 2003 Biggest Veggie Contest. He won in radish, kohlrabi, and cucumber categories.
Indiana Lakes Area Youth For Christ held their annual banquet Thursday at Edgewood Middle School. The theme was “Rebuilding the Foundation,” carried out in construction site decorations. Dr. Jay Kesler, Taylor University president, was keynote speaker. Matt Vosberg is campus life director at WCHS and Eric Miller is director in the middle schools.

Wendy Rust won the title of 1989 Triton Junior Miss; first runner-up, Dayna Cade; second runner-up, Kim Heisler; third runner-up, Lara Anders. Preliminary awards: Anders for poise, appearance, and scholastic achievement; Cade for youth fitness; Rust for creative and performing arts; Krista Hepler won the Spirit of Junior Miss award.
Fourth-grade students from Washington, Jefferson and Lincoln Schools were treated to a program on the Indians of Indiana by Sheryl Hartman, Huntington. The students were studying Indiana history and Hartman came dressed in an authentic Indian costume.

Daniel Talbott, 212 N. Washington St., Warsaw, has enlisted in the U.S. Army with an enlistment option of Army Security Agency; John Bilby, Route 2, Warsaw, enlisted for vehicle training; David Woodling, Warsaw, will take an administration course; Wayne Tucker, Burket, chose a European assignment. They have gone to Fort Knox for processing and further training.
The following officers were elected at a meeting of the Akron Rainbow Girls: Diane Kerr, worthy advisor; Cathy Kuhn, worthy associate advisor; Judy Gagnon, charity; Linda Myers, hope; Roxie Arnold, faith. A dance will be held in October. The girls enjoyed refreshments furnished by Barbara Eaton.

Members of the 8-A class of junior high school elected officers Friday: Dorothy Seiffert, president; Robert Gill, vice president; Harriet Reich, secretary-treasurer; Bud Perkins, monitor; and Norman Hankins, ace reporter.
Frank Polk, 70-year-old veteran race horse driver and farmer four miles southeast of Warsaw, was badly injured at the Wauseon, Ohio, racetrack when he was crushed by a 1,000-pound pacer mare owned by Glenn Tellus, Akron. Polk’s horse, “Betty Direct,” had reared back as she was being brought up to score. His brother is Emmett Polk, Winona Lake; Norman Polk, Warsaw, is a nephew. In the excitement, Tellus ran across the track and was hit by another horse.
