Atwood firemen tried to gain control of a barn fire at CRs 525W and 100N. Fire Chief Mike Harmon said the building was an older chicken house owned by Creighton Brothers, but was being used to store bales of hay. The building was a complete loss. Firefighters let the bales burn themselves out.
Chore-Time Brock, Milford, began the tradition of a pie-in-the-face auction years ago as a fundraiser for their internal United Way campaign. Employees bid for the opportunity to smear a whipped cream pie in the face of a supervisor or co-worker. This year’s campaign ran Oct. 13; Key Leader Scott Peters took the pie.

President of the Mentone Farmers State Bank, Forrest D. Miner, announced the opening of their fifth office at 204 Main St., Leesburg. David Clay, financial services representative the past year, has been named branch manager. Other members of the staff are Emalou Donnelson, administrative assistant; Cynthia Miller, secretary-teller; and Linda Lamb, teller.
Kurt Carlson has been named chief executive officer for the Bowen Center for Human Services. He has been the division director at Park Center in Fort Wayne where he and his family live. They plan to relocate to the Warsaw area.
Executive Office Machines Inc. has moved to its new business location at 2307 E. Center St., Warsaw, across from the Multi-Township EMS station.

Mrs. Hugh Parsons, director of the Kosciusko County chapter of the National Foundation, March of Dimes, was honored at the state meeting in Indianapolis for her six years of voluntary service. She presented a check from the local chapter to the national president to be used toward the new treatment center at Riley Hospital.
Karel Hollingsworth (Miss Karel to her kindergarten class at Syracuse Elementary School) received a citation of merit from the Indiana Rehabilitation Association which reads “In recognition of outstanding and meritorious service to the handicapped.” She has taught kindergarten since graduation from Indiana Central College in 1961.

With a very successful softball season behind them, the Warsaw Style Shop girls are planning to reorganize their team into a basketball aggregation. Former Warsaw High School girls athletic association stars, Delores Smith, Jean Irvine and Doris Pletcher, head the list of prospective candidates for the team. Rumor has it that Your Daily Times staff member, Reuben Williams, will coach the all-stars.
A passerby, seeing smoke pouring from a basement window in the Lake City Bank, turned in the alarm. Firemen found that bank employees had been burning paper in the furnace, which closed the draft on the furnace causing smoke to back up into the building. Bob Woodling, 11, said, “I’m glad it didn’t burn down, I’ve got four dollars in there.”[[In-content Ad]]
