Four Life Scouts of Troop 715 – Preston Moudy, Trent McClintock, Jon Snyder and Matthew Holderman – were escorted down the stairs by members of the Old Guard and up to the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier at Arlington Cemetery July 14. A wreath was set before the tomb and the boys saluted with the guards while “Taps” was played. The guard then continued his 21-step vigil back and forth in front of the tomb. The troop also visited President Kennedy’s gravesite, Arlington House and the Iwo Jima Memorial.
Akron All-Star Spellers, Julie Baxter, Sally Bales, Sally Ocock, Patti Newman and Deb Miller, Akron Elementary School staff members, placed second in a field of 23 teams that competed in the Fulton County Spell Bowl at Rochester Middle School.

Emma’s Exotic Eggs, owned by Emma Fretz, Warsaw, has been selected as one of more than 25 exhibitors in the Victorian Sampler Gift Show and Sale to benefit the Riley-Jones Historic Foundation in Muncie. Fretz creates unique designs with real eggs, ranging in size from finch to ostrich eggs. They are painted and covered with sealer to strengthen the shells before being turned into music boxes, lights, revolving designs and other projects.
John and Darlene Bauman will be celebrating the grand opening of their store, Bauman Stoneware Decorative Arts studio/gallery, 1506 CR 225W, Warsaw, on Nov. 18 and 19. Visitors can watch the wheel-thrown stoneware and porcelain pottery being made.

Class officers at Warsaw Junior High for 1964/65 were announced by Principal Glen Longenecker: seventh grade – Tom Dzuba, president; James Sloan, vice president; David Long, secretary-treasurer; Sheila Kehoe and Kim Gilbert, student council. eight grade – Roger Beigh, president; Randy Kirkendall, vice president; Susan Noble, secretary-treasurer; Melissa Thomas and Mike Dalton, student council.
Raymond Grubbs and Georgia Teel will replace Mr. and Mrs. Richard Gross as custodians of the Mentone School. Superintendent Robert Forbes reported that the Tippecanoe Valley School Board voted to upgrade the Akron School library.

Winona youngsters heeded the call to “arms” by getting out their wooden guns and executing squad movements on the Warsaw-Pierceton Road at Winona Lake: Ted,11; Dave Lang, 8; Larry, 11; and Bobby Lee Gilliland, 9. The Lang boys are the sons of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Lang; the Gilliland boys, sons of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Gilliland.
William Blodgett, Leesburg, celebrated his 91st birthday anniversary Sept. 7 by performing his duties as U.S. mail messenger, transferring mail between the Leesburg Post Office and the Big Four Railroad, a job he has held for the past 16 years. He came to Kosciusko County at age 5. Blodgett lives with his son, Joseph, and has been a subscriber of The Warsaw Daily Times for 70 years.[[In-content Ad]]
