    Patriotism and respect for veterans were common themes among entries in a parade Saturday in Syracuse. The parade was conducted in conjunction with the Traveling Vietnam Memorial Wall display in Syracuse. Parade units included the Great Lakes Naval Station marching band, Boy Scouts, national guard troops, a pipe band from South Bend and emergency vehicles from Syracuse and surrounding communities.

    The Grasshoppers were the league and tourney champions in the minor league girls’ softball division. The team had a record of 11-2 overall and did not lose a game in the league tourney. Team members were: Donna Kirsey (coach), Kelly Smith, Barbara Derry, Kelly Hoppus, Laurie Bailey, Paige Schwinnen, Adrianne Heaton, Jenni Culter and Troy Stouder (coach) Mandy Plummer, Amanda Kruse, Tracey Meadows and Marlynn Lackey.

    Miss Marilyn Mikesell, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Blaine Mikesell, of Winona Lake, has been chosen to sing in the a capella choir at Hanover College, Hanover, Ind., where she is a freshman. The choir, a select group of 65, rehearses daily and gives various concerts during the year and tours each spring. Marilyn, a 1962 graduate of Warsaw High School, was very active in music at the high school.
75 Years Ago
    After thirty years continuous service Otto  Philpott, Warsaw will become eligible for retirement on February 1, 1938. The popular Warsaw mail carrier kindly posed for The Times cameraman beside the Hotel Hays here while on his route. He may elect not to retire and continue two years more in active service. He still prides himself on making his rounds and beating his younger fellow carriers back to the postoffice.
