The 2001 Indiana State Corn Husking Contest began early Saturday morning, a mile east of North Manchester. Teams of horses pulled antique wooden wagons, and huskers tossed corn into those wagons as fast as possible. The contest is as old as corn husking and competitive men. Each contestant has 10 minutes to grab corn. A gleaner follows behind the corn husker, gathering the missed cobs.

On Sept. 1, Dr. John J. Davis became the fourth president in the 50-year history of Grace College and Theological Seminary. He took over for the retiring president, Dr. Homer Kent, and had worked closely with him before the transition took effect. Davis wants the Grace campus to be known as the friendliest place in town. His one objective that at the same time overshadows and permeates all of the others is that “The first thing people should see when they look at Grace College and Theological Seminary is our commitment to God’s word and our resulting lifestyle.”
