Mitch Daniels, Republican candidate for Indiana governor, made a campaign stop in Warsaw Friday and spoke to a large crowd on the south side of the Kosciusko County Courthouse lawn. There was a three-block-long convoy from the fairgrounds, with Daniels opening the door to his signature-covered RV-1 to greet people along Bronson and Center streets. He was greeted by former Gov. Otis R. Bowen and State Sen. Kent Adams. John Elliott, Warsaw, organized the event.
Bell Memorial Library in Mentone and Warsaw Community Public Library have made the Hennen’s Public Library Ratings list again this year. Warsaw moved up from 10th to fourth after being placed in a higher population category. Bell Memorial ranked first among 1,308 other libraries serving the same population.

Warsaw Community High School, East Smith St., will host a College-Vocational Fair Oct. 23 with representatives from colleges, vocational schools and the armed forces on hand to talk with students. Students waiting to attend are Edwina Shepherd, Lynelle Lehman, Israel Young, Joel Bowers, Chandra Julian and Ted Westerhof.
Students achieving the highest sales for Claypool Elementary School’s Fall fundraiser are Serena Taylor, Stacey Denny, Deric Ransbottom, Eric McKrill, Aaron and Joel Brubaker.
Warsaw Morning Optimists officers are Budd Walls, president; David Lee, vice president community services; Ron Henry, immediate past president; Steve Beehler, secretary; Al Gore, treasurer; Gary Hamilton, president-elect. Board members are Max Mock, Don Runyan, Ed Huffer, Ron Donkers and Bob Bullock.

Elaine Munson, 16, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gael Munson Jr., Warsaw, is the Times-Union October Calendar Girl.
Vicki Marie Philapy, daughter of Mrs. Winifred Philapy, Warsaw, is one of 15 candidates vying for the title of homecoming queen at Ball State Teachers College.
Work toward establishing a YMCA in Warsaw was begun in 1961 by a group of citizens headed by Dr. Carl Shrader. The dream was realized Oct. 2, when Philip Harris, president, turned the first spade of dirt at the site located between East Winona Avenue and East Smith Street adjacent to the fairgrounds. The building is expected to be completed in late spring.

Leonard Kelly, son of Mr. and Mrs. L.A. “Pat” Kelly, east Warsaw restaurant operators, has been employed by the Pittsburg Pirates and has started work under Louis Manual. He will return to Warsaw at the close of the baseball season.
Fred McKown Jr., back from Culver summer school, carried off seven ribbons in various athletic events. He was one of the camp’s best swimmers and divers, but he lost the boxing championship in his weight class in the final round when he was forced to face a lad who had a 17-pound weight advantage.
Aeronautic aspirants are anticipating an aerial show presented by all-girl aviators at the air field here soon. Local youths are endeavoring to secure clever, speedy, tricky, feminine flyers from Chicago for the event.
