Director is Dawn Hinthorn. The group is available to sing at Sunday worship services November through May.

    Kosciusko Literacy Services celebrates National Literacy Month in September, "Put Your Nose in a Book, Indiana." Activities were scheduled through the month. Wearing red noses: Brenda Rigdon, KLS; Carol Hurd and Diane Yallow, Syracuse Library; Pam Long, Milford Library; Tara Bradley, Mentone Library; Helen Leinbach, North Webster Library; Jo Ellen Hogan, Warsaw Library.

25 Years

The 68-year-old fieldstone fountain was spared any damage during a fire which gutted the old Bourbon School on Christmas Eve, 1928. The Marshall County Historical Society has granted it an Historical Landmark Award. The fountain was constructed in 1922 by school janitor, Clyde Taylor, under the supervision of principal Waldrip. Charlie Compton, 1942 graduate, serves on a committee to determine the fate of the 61-year-old school and gym.

    Rex Zolman, senior process engineer, was recently given an award for 25 years of service with Zimmer. Manager of engineering is Gene Farling.

    A new service has begun at Kosciusko Community Hospital. Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) began Sept. 22, another step in KCH's plan to upgrade its diagnostic equipment.

50 Years

New officers of the Warsaw Classroom Teachers Association Sept. 16: Delmar Bunnell, president; John J. Schang, vice president; Mrs. Glen Longenecker, treasurer; Mrs. Terry Klondaris, secretary. William J. Landrigan, junior high school social studies teacher, reported on the national NEA and National Classroom Teachers conventions he and his wife attended in New York early in July.

    Lakeland Community School Corp. principals: Donn D. Kesler, Milford High School; Harold Young, Milford Elementary; Robert Slavens, Syracuse High School; Edgar A. Speer, Syracuse Elementary; Charles Garner, Leesburg High School; G. Wendell Bryant, North Webster High School.

75 Years

 

    Fiddlemaker Jacob M. Heckaman, of Etna Green, exhibited his latest masterpiece in the Times and Union office Saturday morning, Sept. 14, a brand new fiddle he just completed from wood out of a 30-year-old oaken vinegar barrel. It is the third he's completed this month. "No sour music comes from the instrument," he says.

    A number of ribbons were captured at the horse show at the Akron fair Saturday night, Sept. 14, by riders from the H. and W. ranch of Warsaw. A relay race was won by Leonard Wolford, Robert Hay and Floyd Kirkendall.

    Mike Hodges, contractor, tied up his horse in back of Breading Cigar Store and dashed to the fountain for a malted milk.
