The Boys & Girls Club of Kosciusko County won a national award in Colgate-Palmolive's 28th annual search for the country's best community projects by young people with its community beautification program and the "Tinkering with Trash" program. The Club was chosen from among more than 2,000 entries nationwide and won a $100 fourth prize. Members of the Boys and Girls Club worked together to clean up and beautify the county, working in teams and cleaning up after the Pierceton Days Festival.

A 30-year career as a school teacher, coach and administrator is coming to an end for William E. (Bill) Goshert. The former Warsaw Community Schools' assistant superintendent and business manager is retiring at the end of the school year in Portland, where he has served as assistant superintendent and business manager of the Jay County School Corp. since 1978. He and his wife, Deloris, are building a new home and will move back to Warsaw in August or September.

Bruce Frey of Silver Lake is among 33 of next year's "college freshmen-to-be" in Indiana who have been accepted for Indiana University's third "Foundations for College" program June 14 to Aug. 11. Running concurrently with the regular summer season, this program is designed to aid college-bound students to getting an early and objective start in higher education. Frey's field of interest is in business and law.

One of the best educational exhibitions held in Warsaw in recent years was the U.S. Marine Research league display in conjunction with the Seattle Whaling Co., shown recently. Of special interest to boys in 4-H club work as well as to dairymen was the world's largest living milk cow weighing 3,110 pounds and 8 feet 7 inches in heighth. Beside it was the smallest living milk cow, 31 inches in height and weight 298 pounds. The big 68-ton whale, 55 feet long and weighing 136,000 pounds was the feature of the marine exhibit.
