More than 4,000 people turned out at Center Lake Park for the fifth annual Warsaw Cinco de Mayo Festival.
"We had the biggest turnout we've ever had for a Cinco de Mayo Festival ever," said Andy McCleary, of Warsaw City Parks Department. Mel Coplen won the homemade salsa contest and received $50 in cash. The queen contest winner was Alicia Henderson, who received $200 in cash as well as scholarship money.

The Lakeland Christian Academy girls softball team finished second at the Indiana Christian Athletic Association state softball championships at Columbus. Members of the team are: Bobbie Jo Nelson, Jennifer Rose, Julie Whitman, Carmen Conley, Amy Swanson, Darci Nelson; head coach Linda Horton, Jill Conley, Marti Delaquist, Jennifer Ellis, Kelli Fouts, Cheryl Myers and Susan McGuiness. Bret Deardorff is assistant coach.

Mrs. C.R. Graham, of Bourbon, the first Marshall County woman to become president of the Indiana Federation of Women's Clubs, pledges that an unrelenting campaign against obscene literature will be stepped-up, during her term of office.
Mrs. Graham, who has filled numerous offices in the state, district and county federations, won the election over Mrs. Claude Billings, of Greensburg, formerly of Akron.

Appointment of Glen Whitehead as principal of the North Webster and Tippecanoe Township High School to succeed Charles Gross, is announced by Henry Willis, trustee, after consultation with Harry E. Lewallen, county superintendent of schools.
Whitehead is the present principal of the Atwood and Prairie Township School. He has been in charge of the Atwood School for the past nine years.[[In-content Ad]]
