Warsaw Redevelopment Commission Monday approved a declaratory resolution to expand the Warsaw Central Development Area.

A public hearing will be June 2 at noon at city hall. The Warsaw City Council will need to approve the resolution, according to City Planner Jeremy Skinner. Adjacent property owners also will need to be notified.[[In-content Ad]]The current central tax increment finance district runs from Detroit Street to Center Street, and continues west along Center and Indiana streets, Skinner said.

The district continues down the west alley between Indiana Street and Buffalo Street, and goes to Canal Street by Center Lake.

Skinner said if the resolution is approved, the expansion of the TIF district will take in property along the west alley between Indiana and Buffalo streets, and take in all of the property between the alley and Buffalo street.

"The expansion is necessary to connect and expand the downtown business district with the municipal park," Skinner said.

He said the expansion is part of the city's Hyatt Palma study conducted in 2002.

The city had the study conducted to define improvements to the city. The possible TIF district expansion will accommodate the possibility of building a new city building.

"There are a few steps to go, but having the redevelopment commission approve the resolution is the first step," Skinner said.

The commission approved two redevelopment claims for debt service for the Gatke Project Renovation interest and loan payments totaling $6,113.93.

The commission also approved a deed that will allow Warsaw Redevelopment Commission to give ownership of Fribley Field to Warsaw Park and Recreation Department.

Commission members are Richard Snodgrass, Charles Smith, Tammy Rockey, Savina Kralis and Trish Brown. The commission will meet again June 2 at noon at city hall.
