Red Cross Third Annual Project SAFE Saturday
July 28, 2016 at 4:25 p.m.
By Staff Report-
Project SAFE (Smoke Alarms for Everyone) will be Saturday when Red Cross volunteers will go out to several towns in the county.
This year, the Kosciusko Chapter is partnering with Warsaw Community High School’s National Honor Society group, which provided several teams of volunteers for the project.
Silveus Insurance is the local event sponsor and also provided volunteers to assemble material packets.
The residents of Grace Village also assembled materials for the project, and Protechs of Warsaw is providing free sack lunches for the project volunteers.
The families of Kosciusko County are at greater risk from fire than any other disaster so the local Red Cross takes time each year to distribute fire safety information and a battery for smoke alarms, according to a press release.
Homes without a smoke detector will be offered a free detector. The American Red Cross of Kosciusko County has assisted numerous families who have suffered the trauma of a home fire.
It is part of the Red Cross Mission to help communities prepare for disaster and encourage people to take steps to minimize the risk of potentially preventable disasters like home fires, by remembering two key fire safety steps: install a working smoke alarm and develop a fire escape plan.
A functioning smoke alarm is the single-most important factor in preventing deaths or injuries from a home fire.[[In-content Ad]]
