NORTH WEBSTER – Reba Arlene Smothers, 92, Warsaw, passed away at 2:30 a.m. Dec. 15, 2015, at her home.
She was born Jan. 21, 1923, in Shinglehouse, Pa., to Andrew and Martha Stoddard Reynolds. On Oct. 26, 1979, in Highland, she married Wallace E. Smothers, who preceded her in death Oct. 9, 2002.
She grew up in Pennsylvania, attended high school there, and attended business college in Hammond. She was a homemaker and formerly worked at East Chicago & Hammond Credit Bureaus for over 10 years. She moved to the Warsaw area 27 years ago from Schererville.
She was a member of the New Harvest Church of the Nazarene, Warsaw, and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Surviving are two daughters, Sharon Hilton, Kalkaska, Mich., and Judith (and spouse Chris) Kalajian, Schererville; nine grandchildren and step-grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. She also was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Roberta Millikan; three sisters, Maxine Slawson, Alberta Reynolds and Roberta Reynolds; three brothers, Raymond, Lehman and Lyman Reynolds; a grandson, Dan Holloway; and a great-grandson, Zac Holloway.
Services will be at noon Thursday at Owen Family Funeral Home, North Webster, with Pastor Jeff Seaver of the church officiating. Burial will be at 3 p.m. (CST) Thursday in the chapel at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens, 8178 Cline Ave, Schererville.
Calling is one hour prior to services Thursday at the funeral home.
