SYRACUSE - Raymond S. "Pickle" Newcomer, 88, of Syracuse, died Nov. 24, 2009, at his residence.

He was born Aug. 26, 1921, in Union Center, to Eli and Laura Belle Stouder Newcomer. On April 21, 1946, in Syracuse, he married Elsie Marvis Ott, who died in 1975.

He was a lifetime New Paris/Syracuse area resident and graduated in 1940 from Syracuse High School. He worked in the shipping department at Penn Controls, Goshen, for 37 years, retiring in 1988. He was a member of Calvary United Methodist Church, Syracuse.

Surviving are a son, Paul ( and spouse Penny) Newcomer, Syracuse; two grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; a great-grandson; and two step-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters and four brothers.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Calvary United Methodist Church, Syracuse, with the Rev. David Herr officiating. Burial will be in Syracuse Cemetery.

Calling is from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at Owen Family Funeral Home, Syracuse.
