MARION - Raymond A. Parker, 88, of Marion, died at 2:05 p.m. April 8, 2008, in Marion VA Hospital.

He was born Oct. 6, 1919, in Marion, to Charles and Bertha Yeager Parker. He married Rosemary Canten, who survives. He was previously married to Glenna Helm and Rosa Gillespie, who both preceded him in death.

He retired as owner of Parker Auto Glass, Marion. He built and race 3/4 Midgets. He enjoyed NASCAR, raced Hydroplane boats and enjoyed attending his Army reunion. He was a World War II U.S. Army veteran, serving in New Guinea during the Battle of Zig Zag Path, Leyte Gulf, Philippines and Manila.

Also surviving are a daughter, Suzanne (and spouse Mike) Moore, Syracuse; two sons, Dennis (and spouse Karen) Parker and David (and spouse Jill) Parker, both of Marion; five grandchildren: Andrea (and spouse Eric) Rutkowski, Steven (and spouse Kim) Parker, Alecia (and spouse Ron) Bame, Kelly (and spouse Steve) Read and Andrew Shawler; eight great-grandchildren; and two stepchildren, Tom (and spouse Belinda) Canten, Marion, and Robert (and spouse Jeanette) Canten, Madison, Ala. He was preceded in death by a sister, Betty Bell, and a brother, Chuck Parker.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Needhan-Storey-Wampner Funeral Service, North Chapel, 1341 N. Baldwin Ave., Marion, with Dr. Tom Mansbarger officiating. Burial will be in Grant Memorial Park, Marion.

Calling is from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
