WINONA LAKE – Ralph Everett Hamell, 89, of Winona Lake and formerly of Syracuse, died at 8 a.m. August 20, 2013, at Grace Village Health Care.
He was born Aug. 30, 1923, in Rosamond, Ill. to Joseph E. and Clara N. Warner Hamell. On June 3, 1941, he married Evelyn Lucille Hardy, who survives in Winona Lake.
He was a resident of Kosciusko County for the past 46 years where he attended Christ’s Covenant Church of Winona Lake. He graduated from Rosamond High School in Illinois. In 1943 he enlisted in the US Army, and was a World War II veteran serving his country in Germany and France. He retired in 1983, having worked as an electrician for NIPSCO for more than 35 years; and was a school bus driver for Wawasee Community Schools until 1992.
Also surviving are two sons: Larry Dean (and spouse Mary) Hamell, DeKalb, Ill. and Lester Allen (and spouse Karen) Hamell, Kimmell; four daughters, Joyce Jean (and spouse Ronald) Harris, Plymouth, Janice Marie (and spouse Robert) Meyer, Waterloo, Jo Ellen (and spouse Thomas) Wagner, Wabash, and Jill Annette (and spouse Joseph) Chalk, Warsaw; 14 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by four sisters.
Calling is from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Redpath-Fruth Funeral Chapel, Warsaw. Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Redpath-Fruth, officiated by Pastor Larry McCall.
Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw, with military rites conducted by the American Legion Post #49 and V.F.W. #1126, both of Warsaw, and the Indiana ARNG Honor Guard.
