NORTH MANCHESTER – Ralph A. Royer,  80, of Claypool, died at 8:50 a.m. Oct. 14, 2012, in his residence.
He was born July 26, 1932, in Virigwi, Nigeria, to Harold A. and Gladys Hawbaker Royer. On April 17, 1955, he married Florence S. Miller, who died Feb. 25, 2005. On April 29, 2006, he married Barbara Peters McFadden, who survives.
He was a retired missionary and a member of Eel River Community Church of the Brethren, Silver Lake. He attended high school in Hillcrest, Nigeria, and Dallas Center, Iowa. After attending McPherson (Kan.) College  for two years, he served as a 1-W alternative military service in Nigeria from 1953-55. Upon his return, he completed his college degree and graduated in 1957. He and  Flossie served as missionaries for the Church of the Brethren in Nigeria for 18 years. Later, he served as director of Church World Service in Niger for 11 years. He also served in Liberia for two years where he was involved with war relief work. Returning to Indiana in 1986, he worked in construction for the next 20 years.
Surviving are three daughters: Linda Shankster, Elkhart; Roxane (and spouse Carl) Hill, Abilene, Texas; and Sylvia (and spouse Andrew) Taussig, Oklahoma City, Okla.; a sister, Norann Norann Blough, Bruderhof Community, N.Y.; 11 grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 4 p.m. today at Eel River Community Church of the Brethren, Silver Lake, with Pastor Andrew Sampson officiating. Burial will be in Ulrey Memorial Cemetery, Silver Lake.
McKee Mortuary, North Manchester, is in charge of arrangements.
