ELKHART - After a grueling tennis sectional on Saturday, Warsaw had just three days to prepare for its first-round regional matchup with Northridge.

Northridge defeated Warsaw 4-1 on April 25, the Tigers' third match of the year.

"We played them pretty early in the season," head coach Jeannie Glunt said. "At that time, I didn't think that we were very competitive with them. It kind of became a matter of; Do the kids think they can do this? Even though we didn't win, we played great matches all the way around."

Warsaw fell 4-1 again on Wednesday night, ending the season for all but Kim Bradley.

Bradley will move on to the regional finals with a 6-7 (2-7), 6-4, 6-1 victory at No. 1 singles.

"Kim has set some pretty high goals for herself," Glunt said. "She has said all along that she would like to go as far in the state tournament as possible. She's anxious to fulfill some of those wishes and goals. She's at the top of her game right now. She's very confident. The rest of the team is behind her. They're ready to pile into the van to support her."

Warsaw struggled outside of No. 1 singles, only winning one set. At No. 2 doubles, the team of Brooke Westover and Lisa Estep fell to Michelle Stephenson and Carrie Herbster 6-1, 3-6, 6-3.

Estep, the only senior other than Bradley, played in her final high school tennis match.

"It was a pretty emotional day for the two seniors," Glunt said. "It was the last day of school for the seniors and everybody else was driving out of the parking lot honking their horns and here they are, changing their tennis shoes and piling into a van."

Because of the rain, the match was moved to the indoor facility and it caused some problems for Warsaw.

"They appeared to be a little bit faster," Glunt said. "They balls were coming faster and harder, and the Northridge players, all the way around, had great serves. Even Kim came over and asked, 'What am I going to do? She serves so hard.'"

Warsaw can begin to look to the future after a season of marked improvement from the beginning to the end of the year.

"They all plan to continue playing this summer and in the winter program too," Glunt said. "I think we're going to have a real solid team next year. In fact, we could have seven seniors playing varsity next year. If they are as good as they could be, we could have a nice team."

Bradley will compete Saturday morning at Elkhart Central against an opponent yet to be determined.
