Raider Wrestlers Win NLC

Northridge, which went 6-0 during regular season dual meets, finished first overall in the Northern Lakes Conference after winning Saturday's NLC Tournament.
Warsaw placed fourth in team points with three individual champions. Wawasee, which finished sixth, had one champion.Ê ÊÊÊ
Goshen's Schuyler Barkes (135) was named the outstanding wrestler of the tournament, pinning his three opponents in a combined time of just 2:52.Ê Barkes is ranked No. 1 in the State.
The NLC All-Conference team comprises the champions in each weight class and in addition, the coaches voted for three at-large members: Plymouth's Chris Glaub (135), Concord's Mike Robinson (171) and Wawasee's Tom Bryan (275).
In the 275-pound championship match, Bryan and Warsaw's Joey Navarro met in a rematch of their regular season dual.ÊIn that December fracas, Bryan came out the 4-2 winner by scoring a takedown with only seconds remaining.
Navarro fought through for a 5-4 win in the Saturday rematch.
At 215 pounds, Kris Hueber was another champ for the Tigers. In his opening match, Hueber was up 11-0 when he pinned NorthWood's Jamie Garcia at 3:06. In the semifinals, Hueber came away with a 4-0 decision over Nick Leffert of Concord. For the championship, Hueber avenged his regular season 4-2 overtime loss to Goshen's Jeremy Pries.
In the rematch Saturday, Hueber nailed a takedown in the first period, but then Pries escaped. Hueber escaped in round two, and Pries escaped again in the final period, but neither wrestler could score a takedown, and the championship went to Hueber.
Wawasee's champion was Shane Heimann (171), who entered the finals by means of two pins: NorthWood's Neil Widmer in 1:37 and Northridge's Noah Hoopingarner in 4:30.
In the finals, Heimann bested Concord's Mike Robinson in a 9-3 decision.
Warsaw senior Isaac Perry (160) continued his outstanding season with three more wins to earn his NLC tournament championship. In round one, he stuck Plymouth's Chris May in 1:36, and in the semifinals, Perry won a 9-2 decision over Goshen's Nick Miller. In the finals, Perry was ahead 9-3 when he nailed Northridge's Steve Harrell in 3:02.
Warsaw's Anthony Boley, runnerup at 103, reached the finals by pinning NorthWood's Brandon Wiley in 59 seconds in round one.Ê In the semifinal round, Boley met Northridge's Anthony Lemon for the fourth time this season. He had gotten the better of Boley twice, most recently at Mishawaka, when Lemon was the winner in a 14-13 decision.
Saturday Boley took a commanding 9-1 lead before nailing Lemon at 3:03. Boley went on to the finals to face Gerardo Quiroz of Goshen and was the victim of a pin at 3:39.
Warsaw's Tanner Connealy (112) took sixth place, as did Chris Riley (119). Riley won one match, a 10-0 major decision over Concord's Chris Hunsberger. Warsaw coach Tony Boley said, "This was the best (Riley) has wrestled all year."
Warsaw's Adam Bott (130) also won one match, earning fifth place by pinning Wawasee's Joe Thompson in 1:18. Trenton Plummer (135) is in an exceptionally strong weight class and took sixth place.
Boley said, "David Sumpter (140) is coming along. He almost made the finals."
Boley said Sumpter had Wawasee's Josh Roa on his back twice and nearly came away with a pin. However, Roa roared through with a 19-11 major decision. Sumpter went 2-2 on the day to take fifth place, pinning Goshen's Frank Guzman twice, in 5:34 and 2:48.
Micah Seisennop (145) took fourth place with one win, a 5-3 decision over Goshen's Greg Mueller. Nick McKinley (152) was pinned at 1:53 in the opening round by the eventual champion, Plymouth's John Funk.ÊMcKinley then took fifth place by pinning Wawasee's Logan Pilcher in 2:44.
Richard Wolfe (171) took fourth place on the strength of two wins, an 11-3 decision over Goshen's Caleb Coblentz and a pin in 37 seconds of NorthWood's Neil Widmer.ÊTyler Miller (189) had a win and a loss to nab third place. Miller pinned Goshen's Mark Ulfig in 4:07.
Wawasee results
Josh DeGood (112) was runnerup, reaching the finals by defeating Goshen's Kevin Russell 10-3. In the championship, DeGood lost a 5-1 decision to NorthWood's Jesse Espinoza.Ê Josh Roa (140) was also runner up for Wawasee. After winning a 19-11 major decision over Sumpter, Roa was bested by Northridge's Tory Owens 10-4.
Mike Hanlin (125) lost to Concord's Brett Bultemeir in the semifinals.Ê Hanlin came back in the consolation rounds to beat Goshen's Nick VanderMolen in an 11-0 major decision. Hanlin then took third place by defeating Northridge's Jeremy Weaver 11-4.
Lucas Speakman (145) lost in the semifinals but came back to win twice in the consolation rounds to earn third place, pinning Plymouth's Keegan Campbell in 2:00 and then Siesennop in 3:48.
Eric Vallejo (103) earned fifth place by pinning NorthWood's Brandon Wiley in 2:36.Ê
Mark Speakman (119) took fifth place by defeating Riley twice, first by a 15-3 major decision in round one. In the semifinals, Speakman lost 8-4 to the eventual champ, NorthWood's Nick Roelandts. Speakman defeated Riley once again, with a 2:42 pin to take fifth place.
Ê Joe Thompson (130) took sixth place, and Grant Gibson (135) took fifth place with an 11-6 decision over NorthWood's Ben Lehman. Logan Pilcher (152) took sixth place, and Craig Jensen (215) wound up in fourth place. In the opening round, Jensen lost a tough 7-5 overtime decision to Plymouth's Mark Palbykin. In the consolation round, Jensen came back to beat Concord's Nick Leffert 5-1 but then lost again to Palbykin, 5-1.
ÊWawasee wrestles Saturday in the East Noble Sectional, which includes Central Noble, DeKalb, West Noble and Westview.Ê
Warsaw hosts its own sectional with Triton, Tippecanoe Valley and Plymouth.
