R. Gordon Tuttle, 96, of Warsaw,  passed away at 2 p.m. Sept. 30, 2012, in his residence.

He was born Dec. 6, 1915, in Kosciusko County, to James O. and Nellie Devenney Tuttle. On June 3, 1945, in South Whitley, he married Mary Naomi Studebaker, who survives.

A lifetime resident of Warsaw, he was a self-employed farmer, retiring in the early 1990s. He graduated from Larwill High School and served in the U.S. Air Force during World War II in the European Theatre from 1943-45. He was a member of Morris Chapel United Methodist Church, Warsaw, Gideons International and Farm Bureau. He enjoyed gardening.

Also surviving are two daughters, Jayne St. Marie, Palm Beach, Fla., and Carol Whitesell, Warsaw; a son, James (and spouse Virginia) Tuttle, Rochester Hills, Mich.; two sisters, Helen Smith, North Webster, and Marilynne Curtis-Stauffer, Warsaw; nine grandchildren: Richard and Alec Prentice, Michael, Jenny, Jackie, Kristie and Adam Whitesell, Lori Price and Paula Olson; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, John and Morris, and two sisters, Betty and Marjorie.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Friday at McHatton-Sadler Funeral Chapel, 2290 Provident Court, Warsaw, with Pastor Holly White officiating. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery, Warsaw.

Calling is from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
