Quick Start Lifts Lady Squires Over Rival Valley

AKRON – Manchester’s varsity softball team got off to a great start Monday and never looked back, as the Lady Squires beat Three Rivers Conference rival Tippecanoe Valley 9-1.
Manchester scored four runs in the first inning, and after being shutout in the second plated one in each of the remaining innings.
The host Lady Vikings scored their only run in the sixth inning.
Manchester pounded out 12 hits in the win, while Valley was held to just four hits.
Each team committed one error.
Cierra Carter was 3 for 4 at the plate for Manchester and also scored twice and drove in a run.
Sydney Day, Brooklyn Howard and Mattie McKee had two hits each in the win.
Amanda Shepherd had two hits for Valley, while Katie Prater and Mia Gunnels had one each.
Howard earned the win in the circle, giving up four hits, three walks and one run in seven innings of work. She struck out eight Valley batters.
Kassidy Shepherd was charged with the loss after giving up 11 hits, eight runs and three walks. She struck out three Manchester batters.
The Lady Squires are in action again today at Caston, while Valley hosts conference foe Southwood Wednesday.
