Kosciusko County Sheriff’s Department Cpl. Brandon Hepler was dispatched Sunday at 10:14 p.m. to a suspicious vehicle in the area of CR 300E near CR 600S.
Hepler located the red Dodge SUV on the side of the roadway, still running, and approached the vehicle. As Hepler spoke to the driver and passenger, he denoted the strong odor associated with the production of methamphetamine.
As Hepler was requesting a K-9 unit to respond to his location, the driver of the suspect vehicle accelerated suddenly, almost striking Hepler.[[In-content Ad]]Hepler began to pursue the fleeing vehicle northbound on CR 300E, noting that several items were being thrown from the open windows of the vehicle.
As Hepler approached the intersection of CRs 300E and 450S, he noticed the vehicle had stopped and the driver, Reynolds, was standing at the entrance to a bean field.
At that time the passenger, Hobbs, moved over and started to drive the vehicle. A short time later the vehicle stopped and Hobbs exited and started to run through the field. Eventually, Hobbs surrendered to Hepler.
Arriving officers began to locate various items on CR 300E that had been thrown from the fleeing vehicle that were commonly used in the production for methamphetamine. Kosciusko County Drug Task Force officers and Indiana State Police Clandestine Lab team members arrived to secure the meth-related items.
Reynolds and Hobbs were both preliminarily charged with felony fleeing/resisting law enforcement with a deadly weapon/vehicle as well as manufacturing methamphetamine, and possession of precursors. Bond on both individuals was set at $2,000 by the Kosciusko County Prosecutor's Office.
