Pursuit Ends In Apparent Suicide

July 28, 2016 at 4:25 p.m.

The suspect involved in a alleged robbery Friday evening of the First Financial Bank in North Manchester is dead from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
According to Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department Public Information Officer Chad Hill, shortly before 6 p.m. Friday, a male suspect entered the bank at 106 N. Market St., downtown North Manchester. After robbing a teller, the man fled the bank in his pickup truck. Within minutes, a North Manchester officer located the vehicle and began following it north on Ind. 13.
The suspect drove through Liberty Mills. The officer activiated his lights, but the suspect failed to stop.
At approximately 6:08 p.m., according to Hill, shortly before the intersection of Ind. 13 and Ind. 14, the suspect's vehicle suddenly stopped, but the suspect refused to exit his vehicle. Moments later, the officer heard a gunshot from inside the pickup truck.
South Whitley officers arrived shortly afterward and approached the vehicle along with the North Manchester officer and determined that the male suspect was suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency personnel responded to the scene, but immediately contacted Kosciusko County Coroner Michael Wilson.
Wilson arrived and pronounced the suspect deceased from injuries consistent with self-inflicted gunshot wounds.
The KCSD is investigating the pursuit aspect of the events, while the Indiana State Police Peru District is investigating the robbery.
At press time Friday night, Hill said the name of the officer involved in the pursuit, along with the deceased suspect, are not currently being released.[[In-content Ad]]
