Public Fed Up

The popularity votes are in and the American public has given our elected officials on Capitol Hill a 14 percent no confidence approval rating. I can't imagine why. America is finally waking up.

However, what puzzles me most is what issue or issues have brought about this startling revelation. After all, there are a few issues that each of us could pick from today. My educated guess would be the border issue with Mexico and immigration, even though our elected officials have already outlined their plan to the American people. However, our government has yet to implement their plan. As a result, our borders remain unprotected, while the threat of terrorism becomes more imminent. I wonder just how hard it would be to build a wall along our borders. Perhaps we should consult the Chinese for advice.

Maybe it's the Iraq-Afghan wars effort. After all, we are trying our best to appease our enemy and the world in spite of the fact that our enemy refuses to comply with the rules of the Geneva Convention. While our troops try to limit civilian casualties and help the Iraqi people rebuild, the Islamic fanatics have stepped up their efforts to kill and destroy the lives and property of those who still believe in this perverted ideology of tolerance, love and peace called Islam.

Or, could it be the battlefield restrictions that have been placed on our troops? Why hasn't our military been allowed to use the force that worked well for us in WWII in both Iraq and Afghanistan, the same force that earned America the respect and fear of many of these rouge countries who are gesturing threats today and have succeeded putting America in its place. I'm reminded of force used by the U.S. and its allies when they first entered Iraq, how scared and unseen the enemy was back then. Today, the insurgency just sits back and picks our troops off like pop-up targets. Why? Are we to blame the Improvised Explosive Devices and the insurgency that our news media and so-called terror experts would have us believe? Or, could it be our politicians who have tied the hands of our military leaders and our troops from doing the job they were trained to do?

Perhaps the reasons could be related to our guys and gals on the hill accepting money or bribes from special interest groups, while the needs and cries of the American people go unheeded. And let us not forget the raises our nation's leaders have voted for themselves the past three and four years while accomplishing nothing.

Is it any wonder why the American public has finally put our nation's leadership on notice? We the people must do a better job of electing our leaders. Sadly, the upcoming presidential hopefuls are nothing to cheer about. I want the America who once had backbone, fortitude, feared no one, and was willing to stand up for the little guy in spite of world opinion.
