A property tax repeal rally to educate property owners, elected officials and legislators about methods to repeal property taxes will be Thursday in Warsaw.

The rally will be at 7 p.m. at Center Lake Pavilion.

Eric Miller, attorney and founder of Advance America, will discuss a permanent solution to the property tax crisis.

Miller, who ran in the 2004 Republican primary against Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels, said the rally is open to all citizens who are concerned about property taxes.

He will provide information and a presentation on options to reduce property taxes during the rally.

Miller held a planning meeting in August to organize the rallies and has visited Goshen, Kokomo, Muncie, New Castle and New Albany.

He announced the rally in Warsaw in August.

"We try to wait until residents' tax bills go out and hold rallies to allow communities to discuss how to avoid increased property taxes," Miller said in a telephone interview.

Miller said since the rallies started, there have been thousands of petitions signed by Indiana residents that support a constitutional amendment to repeal property taxes.

Miller will present a plan for a constitutional amendment to permanently repeal property taxes, along with an immediate solution to help property owners in Indiana this year with their property tax increases.

The mission of Advance America is to inform and educate citizens in Indiana how government works and what they can do to make a difference on issues of importance to them, Miller said.

The organization was founded in 1980 to inform individuals about what is occurring in state government and activity in the General Assembly by a 24-hour toll-free hot line, business faxes, mailings and speaking engagements.

Advance America staff read and review every bill filed in the Indiana Assembly and evaluate the bills.

They offer testimony before legislative committees, talk directly with legislators and train people how to lobby.

The grassroots network includes more than 45,000 families, 1,500 businesses and more than 3,700 churches in Indiana.
