Programs Set To Remember MLK

Martin Luther King Jr. Day is Monday.
The Committee to Commemorate Martin Luther King Jr. will hold a program at 6 p.m. Sunday at Warsaw Community High School Performing Arts Center.[[In-content Ad]]The musical celebration will feature Dr. Oscar J. Underwood and the Cathedral of Praise Team from Cornerstone Christian College Prepatory Day and High School.
Underwood is a pastor, teacher, author, educator and conference speaker. He is the senior pastor of The Destiny Dome of Cathedral of Praise, Fort Wayne, and the Dream Center of Indiana, Indianapolis.
He also is the founder of Cornerstone Christian College Prepatory Day and High Schools, Cornerstone Christian Bible College International and Oju and Associates.
Underwood is the first African-American Indiana Teacher of the Year and nominee for National Teacher of the Year.
He has received numerous national, state and local awards and honors. Honors include the National Business Man of the Year. He received an invitation to testify before the U.S. Congress and received an invitation to the White House for his work in education.
Another program will be Monday at 11 a.m. at Rodeheaver Auditorium, Winona Lake.
A free lunch will be served, and the program will be from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The Martin Luther King Jr. Academic Excellence Awards will be presented to two students during Monday's ceremony. Dr. Craig Hintz, Warsaw Community Schools superintendent, will present the award.
Anthony Payton, Come As You Are Community Church senior pastor, will be the keynote speaker. He will talk about the Power of Compassion as related to King.
Payton has several honors, including he was the first African-American pastor to lead the Indiana Southern Baptist Pastor's Convention in 2004, he was named one of INK Newsmagazines 50 most Influential People in Fort Wayne (2004), and Indiana-Purdue Fort Wayne Great Men Leadership recognized him for promoting diversity (2004).
The programs are free to the public and an offering will be taken during the programs.
